The hotel was very easy to find, and check in was super quick. The staff are lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Didn't get a chance to use the pool as I was only there for one night, but looked perfect! I had a pool view room with a huge balcony both were a really good size! The bed is really on the soft side so unfortunately I woke up a couple of times after sleeping in a weird position. Breakfast was lovely too! Loads of choice, and everything was freshly made. Choice of cooked items, toast, juice, cereals and pastries. Overall a really good experience.
Good quality service only marred by overly hot or cold rooms (not much in between) and smell from fish processing unit in same industrial estate

We've just spent two nights at the Imperial, never having stayed before. Everything was perfect, from the friendly greeting on arrival, the great service and excellent food, which was plentiful and beautifully presented without any of the pretentious "TV cheffy" stuff. Very attentive and professional service without being over the top. A very comfortable hotel operated to really high standards. We hope to return.
This was the latest visit of many and the Imperial, popular and busy as it is, still manages to provide a country house atmosphere coupled with very high standards of service from the friendly but professional staff. Bedrooms have been redecorated and bathrooms have the latest in plumbing. It is always a pleasure to stay in this very well-appointed, extremely well-run establishment, where nothing is too much trouble to please each client. From our wedding reception there in 1969 to our departure this morning, every visit has been a hugely enjoyable one.

The room was very well presented with comfortable bed and good shower. The house and room had a nice atmosphere. We only stayed for one night and left very early but were offered a kind tray with breakfast. Only 20 min walking from coach station. Good value for money. Recommend!
We stayed for one night in a very luxurious room. Although the guest house was fully booked it was very quiet and restful. The breakfast was very well cooked and presented. A good start to the day.

We arrived late but found a warm welcome and spacious beautiful rooms. It's just a very short distance from the town center, so we were able to find a great place for dinner. An excellent breakfast in the morning saw us off to start our walk along the Southwest Coast Path -- I heartily recommend this place for anyone staying over in Barnstable.
In September we spent a very enjoyable weekend at the Old Vicarage Bed & Breakfast in Barnstaple, hosted by Sandi and Bryan. We stayed in bedroom number 1, which is beautifully furnished and decorated, with a view over the garden. The bathroom was the largest we've ever stayed in. We thoroughly enjoyed the personal touches e.g. the chocolates on the pillow and the scrumptious home-made cake left in the room alongside the tea & coffee making facilities. Breakfast is delicious with a wide choice of freshly-cooked full-English or fruits and cereals. We were so impressed by the friendly hosts and the lovely setting that we most certainly intend to make a return visit soon. We highly recommend this place to all our friends, family and colleagues who visit this part of Devon. A little Devon treasure, not to be missed.

We have stayed here a few times and have never been more welcome anywhere else. Treated like one of the family and looked after at every moment. Just the little extras like the smell of fresh baked cakes left in your room on arrival. Would stay here forever if I could. Will be back soon.
If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
